Solidsteel WS Series

The Solidsteel WS Series is a range of high-mass wall-mounted turntable shelves, designed to give analogue sources the stable, isolated platform they need to perform at their best. Where a standard equipment rack transmits floor-borne vibration directly to the turntable — and into the stylus — a properly engineered wall shelf removes that path entirely. The WS Series takes that principle seriously: heavy-gauge steel construction, substantial mass, and a thoughtful mounting system combine to give your turntable a foundation that a floor-standing rack simply cannot match.

The WS-5, the primary model in the range, weighs 13 kg and supports turntables up to 60 kg — covering every turntable in current production, including heavyweight reference decks from the likes of Rega, Pro-Ject, and Clearaudio.

Construction and Engineering

The WS-5 is manufactured in Italy to Solidsteel's usual standard of fit and finish. The perimeter is heavy-gauge steel, giving the shelf its substantial mass and rigidity. The wall plate is thick and generously proportioned, distributing load across the fixing points and providing a secure anchor for the shelf arm.

The shelf is designed for 40 mm studs as standard, but can be mounted to brick, concrete, or other load-bearing structures with appropriate fixings — making it suitable for a wide range of room types and wall constructions. Solidsteel recommend consulting a qualified installer if you are unsure about your wall's load-bearing capacity, particularly when mounting the heaviest turntables.

The design is deliberately restrained — the WS-5 does its job without drawing attention to itself. The steel finish and clean geometry sit comfortably alongside both contemporary and traditional listening room aesthetics.

Why a Wall Shelf?

For a turntable, the case for a wall shelf over a floor-standing rack is acoustic as well as practical. A turntable stylus tracking a groove is responding to movements measured in microns. Any vibration transmitted through the rack — from footfall, from bass frequencies in the room, from other components — is picked up by the cartridge and added to the signal. A wall shelf, properly fixed to a load-bearing structure, isolates the turntable from that path almost entirely.

The WS Series is also the right answer for listeners with limited floor space. It allows a serious turntable to be positioned at the correct height and in the correct part of the room without occupying floor area — a practical advantage in compact listening rooms where every square metre matters.

Who Is It For?

The WS Series is for the analogue listener who takes their source seriously. If you have invested in a quality turntable — from a Rega Planar 3 upward — the surface it sits on is a meaningful part of the system. A heavy, isolated wall shelf is not an accessory; it is infrastructure.

It is also for listeners in smaller rooms who cannot accommodate a full equipment rack, or who want to keep the turntable physically separated from the electronics for both acoustic and practical reasons.

If you are building a broader Solidsteel system, the WS Series pairs naturally with the Solidsteel HF4 Audio Rack for electronics support, or with the Solidsteel SS5 and Solidsteel SS6 for a coordinated equipment furniture approach. The Solidsteel S5-3 is worth considering if you need a full three-shelf rack to sit alongside the wall shelf.
