Rega RB Titanium Tonearm

The RB Titanium is the most advanced production tonearm Rega has ever manufactured. It was designed specifically for the Naia — Rega's statement turntable — and is now available as a standalone product for those fitting it to a compatible deck. Everything in its construction has been specified for maximum performance: the vertical bearing housing is machined from one piece of titanium, the balance weight and shaft are tungsten, and the bearings are hand-selected and individually matched to their paired spindles. There is, as with the RB3000, no adhesive used at any point.

Rega describes the goal as "the minimum of mechanical joints whilst using the stiffest materials in all critical areas." The RB Titanium is the fullest expression of that principle in production tonearm form.

Where the RB Titanium Sits in the Rega Range

The RB Titanium is the flagship of the five-arm standalone Rega tonearm range, sitting above the RB3000.

The step up from the RB3000 is about materials, and the materials matter for specific engineering reasons. The vertical bearing housing in the RB3000 is aluminium; in the RB Titanium, it is machined from a single piece of titanium. Titanium is significantly stiffer than aluminium for its weight, and machining the housing as a single piece eliminates the joints between components — joints that can flex under dynamic load and return energy into the arm. The vertical spindle assembly is also titanium, following the same logic.

The balance weight and shaft are tungsten, not mild steel. Tungsten is approximately 2.5 times denser than steel, which means a tungsten weight of the same dimensions as a steel one is heavier — allowing it to be made smaller. A smaller balance weight moves the centre of mass closer to the pivot axis, improving the arm's dynamic behaviour. The tungsten shaft contributes to the rigidity of the counterweight assembly.

The arm tube is hand-polished aluminium — the same approach as the RB3000, but specified here as the correct companion to the titanium and tungsten components. Hand polishing removes micro-surface irregularities, increasing stiffness and reducing stress at the bearing interfaces. The phono cable terminates in Neutrik Profi connectors — the highest-grade connector in the Neutrik range, used here because at this level every connection in the signal path is relevant.

Sound and Performance

The engineering of the RB Titanium points to one outcome: that the tonearm contributes nothing of itself to the signal. Every material choice, every joint eliminated, every hand-selected bearing is aimed at reducing the arm's mechanical influence on what the stylus retrieves from the groove.

Vinyl LP grooves are measured in microns. A 10kHz signal at typical recording levels occupies approximately 26 microns in the groove wall; quiet signals can occupy less than 10 microns. These are dimensions at which any mechanical play in a tonearm bearing — any detectable friction, any flex in the bearing housing — becomes significant. The RB Titanium is designed at that level of precision: near-frictionless movement in both axes, no measurable play, and no energy return from the housing or the balance weight assembly.

In listening terms, what this delivers is the most precise tracking the cartridge is capable of. The stereo image is more stable and more three-dimensional. Low-level detail — the quiet information in the groove that distinguishes an accurate reproduction from an approximate one — is preserved rather than masked. Timing and transient precision improve because the arm is not adding its own mechanical signature to the signal.

The RB Titanium is designed for listeners running Rega's reference cartridges — the Apheta 3 or the Aphelion 2. At this level, the arm is not the limiting factor; it is the most capable part of the system.

Build Quality and Design

The RB Titanium is hand-built in Southend-on-Sea by Rega's most experienced tonearm technicians. Each arm is individually assembled: bearing selection and spindle matching are performed by hand, and the process cannot be abbreviated. The one-piece titanium bearing housing is machined to tolerances that allow the interference-fit bearings to be fitted without adhesive and without play.

The phono lead is Rega-designed and low-capacitance, preserving the signal from the cartridge output. Neutrik Profi RCA connectors at the phono stage end are specified because the connection between arm cable and phono stage is the last mechanical joint in the signal path before amplification — it should be the best available. Rega's lifetime warranty against manufacturing defects applies.

Connectivity and System Matching

The RB Titanium uses Rega's standard three-point mounting with a 222mm pivot-to-spindle distance. It is the standard arm on the Rega Naia and is compatible with any Rega-mount turntable built to that specification. For those fitting the RB Titanium to a non-Rega turntable — whether a high-grade compatible deck from another manufacturer, or a specifically modified platform — confirm the mounting specification before ordering.

At this level, the arm is designed for moving coil cartridges. Rega's Apheta 3 is the appropriate entry point; the Aphelion 2 is the reference pairing. The phono stage must be capable of handling a high-quality MC signal — the Rega AOS MC Phono Stage is the natural partner for listeners who are also in the Rega ecosystem.

Given the investment involved, Dave or Chris at Martin's should be the first call before committing. They know the Rega range at this level and can advise on turntable compatibility, cartridge choice, and what the rest of the system needs to be to make the most of the arm.

Who Is It For?

The RB Titanium is for the listener who wants Rega's best production tonearm, paired with a reference cartridge and a turntable capable of resolving it. It is the correct arm for the Rega Naia, and is appropriate for any listener building a reference analogue front end around the Rega standard. It is not an upgrade to consider in isolation — the cartridge, phono stage, and turntable must be at the same level for the arm to contribute what it is capable of. If the system is ready for it, there is nothing above this in Rega's production range.

Buying from Martin's Hi-Fi

Martin's Hi-Fi has been in Norwich since 1968, and the Rega range has been part of what we do for years. We are still family-run — Elizabeth Gould runs the business today — and we stock only brands we have heard properly and stand behind.

The RB Titanium can be heard in our Norwich showroom as part of the Naia system; call ahead and we will have it set up properly. When you get in touch, you will be speaking to Dave or Chris — both experienced hi-fi specialists who know the Rega range at this level and can advise on whether the RB Titanium, the system around it, and the cartridge and phono stage are the right fit for your listening room.

Reach them at [email protected], [email protected], [email protected], call on 01603 627010, or WhatsApp Dave or Chris directly on 07554 687137 for a quick answer after your purchase. You can read more about who we are and how we work on our Why Martin's page. We are at 85–91 Ber Street, Norwich, NR1 3EY, open six days a week.
