The DSP7200SE is Meridian's reference four-driver active floorstanding loudspeaker — the point in the range where Meridian's Special Edition electronics, dual DSP processors, and beryllium dome tweeter come together in a full-height cabinet designed for serious listening rooms. At 1072mm tall, 55kg per speaker, and delivering 118dB peak SPL from 30Hz to over 32kHz, the DSP7200SE is built for rooms of 20 to 50 square metres and listeners for whom accuracy and musical integrity are the only criteria.
The Special Edition designation reflects Meridian's scientific research into psychoacoustics and human auditory perception applied to the loudspeaker's design. Two dedicated DSP processors double the available processing power relative to the standard DSP7200, and all audio — including MQA Core streams — is rendered at 176.4kHz or 192kHz regardless of the incoming sample rate. Built by hand in the UK. Available in piano lacquer black as standard, or the full Meridian Select colour range.
For home cinema use, the matching DSP7200SE HC/VC centre channel is the natural partner. See the full Meridian range we stock.
Meridian Audio was founded in 1977 in Cambridgeshire by Bob Stuart and Allen Boothroyd — a company built on the conviction that digital signal processing, applied rigorously, produces more accurate and more musical results than any passive loudspeaker design. Martins Hi-Fi has had a long-standing relationship with Meridian throughout that history. We have heard every significant loudspeaker Meridian has produced and we understand what the DSP7200SE does in a real room. At £35,000, a proper listening session before buying is not optional — call ahead and we will arrange it.
The DSP7200SE is a three-way, four-driver active loudspeaker. A 25mm beryllium dome tweeter with silver voice-coil handles treble, a 160mm polypropylene mid-range driver handles the midrange, and two 200mm long-throw bass drivers share the low-frequency load. Each has its own dedicated amplifier channel — four Class-AB amplifiers, each rated at 150 watts, 600 watts total per loudspeaker.
There is no passive crossover. The crossover is implemented in the digital domain by Bespoke Signal Mapping, where phase relationships, time alignment, and frequency boundaries are defined mathematically and executed with precision. The bass signal is split between two amplifiers driving the two bass drivers — doubling the bass capability without the mechanical compression that a single driver would exhibit at high excursion.
Incoming signals at 44.1kHz or 48kHz are upsampled to 88.2kHz and 96kHz internally. The dual DSP processors ensure all audio is processed at the highest possible resolution.
The DSP7200SE implements nine signal processing technologies from Meridian's reference suite:
Full Frequency Alignment (FFA) corrects group delay across the frequency range, ensuring every frequency arrives at the listener's ear simultaneously. Enabled by default.
Bespoke Signal Mapping applies crossover filters designed specifically for this four-driver, three-way configuration — optimised for the acoustic characteristics of these drivers in this cabinet.
E3 Bass (Expand, Extend, Enhance) applies three-stage filter processing to extract the maximum low-frequency performance from the two bass drivers. The DSP7200SE reaches 30Hz in room.
Q-Sync minimises jitter through Meridian's FIFO buffering, preserving timing integrity through the digital signal path. Timing is the Meridian hallmark — the quality that makes music sound like music rather than a reproduction.
True Time — Meridian's apodising filter — eliminates pre-ringing from digital filters for cleaner transients and more natural decay.
True Link provides encrypted high-definition audio transfer over SpeakerLink, maintaining MQA authentication through the signal path.
Free-Q compensates for acoustic effects introduced by room placement — near walls, in corners, or against boundaries. At this price point, placement optimisation is part of the setup process, and Free-Q adapts the loudspeaker to its environment.
Pro-Active Bass and Pro-Active Thermal protect the drive units from mechanical and thermal stress at high output levels.
The DSP7200SE operates natively within a Meridian system via SpeakerLink (RJ45). A co-axial RCA digital input accepts signals up to 96kHz/24-bit for non-Meridian sources. Audio fed into either input is simultaneously output on both co-axial and SpeakerLink outputs for downstream daisy-chaining.
An eight-character front display shows source and volume information; it can be blanked during use. The IR receiver on the Master loudspeaker accepts Meridian remote commands.

The DSP7200SE is for the serious music listener with a dedicated listening room who wants reference-level active performance without stepping to the DSP8000 XE or DSP9. At 118dB and 30Hz, it has the output and extension to fill a large room without strain. Its four-driver, three-way active architecture delivers the imaging precision, timing accuracy, and low-level resolution that passive loudspeakers at any price point cannot match.
Those building a multichannel system should consider the matching DSP7200SE HC/VC centre channel — sharing the same driver technology, DSP suite, and Special Edition electronics for a genuinely coherent front soundstage.
Martins Hi-Fi has stocked and demonstrated Meridian for decades. Our long-standing relationship with the brand means we understand the DSP7200SE properly — not just the specification, but what it does in rooms of different sizes and with different types of music. At £35,000, this is a loudspeaker that deserves a serious listening session. We will have it set up and ready; call ahead to arrange a time.
