Cyrus Classic AMP

The Cyrus Classic AMP is an integrated amplifier that represents a landmark update to one of the most enduring products in the Cyrus range — a design that has been refined over more than a decade and now benefits directly from the engineering advances developed for the XR Series. The circuit has been completely redesigned and the majority of internal components upgraded, producing an amplifier that retains the Classic Series' familiar character whilst delivering a substantial step forward in outright performance.

Power Amplifier

The Classic AMP delivers 91 watts per channel into 6 ohms. The wideband output stage is designed to respond from DC to beyond 50kHz, ensuring a flat frequency response and minimal phase shift through the audio band. This extended bandwidth is not an end in itself — it is the engineering foundation for the timing accuracy, low-level resolution and dynamic composure that define the Classic AMP's musical character.

Analogue Preamplifier

The analogue preamplifier features relay input selection across five analogue inputs and a precision gain control for volume. The design is intentionally wide bandwidth, maintaining signal integrity from input to output without the frequency limitations that compromise lesser preamplifier stages. Relay switching eliminates the contact resistance and mechanical variability of conventional rotary input selection.

Power Supply

The Classic AMP's power supply is built around a 304VA toroidal transformer delivering power to a high-capacity reserve. Critically, the preamplifier power supply is electrically separated from the power amplifier and driven from its own transformer winding — preventing the dynamic current demands of the output stage from contaminating the supply feeding the sensitive preamplifier circuitry. Digital control circuits are assigned a further separate mains supply, completely isolated from the signal path.

PSX-R2 Compatibility

The Classic AMP includes a dedicated port for the Cyrus PSX-R2 external power supply. When connected, the PSX-R2 routes power directly to the analogue stages of the preamplifier and the post-DAC output stage of the converter, providing a cleaner and more stable supply than the internal power supply can deliver. The improvement is audible as a lower noise floor, more precise imaging and greater low-level resolution.

Phono MM Input

The Classic AMP includes a built-in moving magnet phono stage, featuring dual active gain stages and passive RIAA equalisation. The design allows direct connection of an MM turntable without an external phono stage — and for those who want to go further, the Cyrus Classic Phono is available as a dedicated upgrade.

Pre-Out for Power Amplifier Upgrade

The Classic AMP features a pre-out connection, allowing it to drive a separate power amplifier when a step up in drive capability is required. The Cyrus Classic Power is the natural partner — a combination that transforms the Classic AMP into the preamplifier stage of a genuine high-performance separates system without requiring wholesale change.
