A colour Lithograph by Herman Stilling (1925-1996) Dated 1975.
Herman Stilling was a Danish painter, graphic artist, and writer. He was the brother of Kenn André Stilling. Stilling studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts from 1945 to 1951.
Stilling's artwork is characterized by a fairy-tale and fantastic style that is particularly evident in his depictions of trolls in graphics, collages, paintings, and texts. Another recurring theme in his work is furniture legs, which he started using in the early 1960s and also used in mosaic sculpture. His collages are often composed of torn scraps from old wallpaper books and serve as a basis for abstract paintings.
Stilling provided illustrations for magazines such as Hvedekorn and for his own and other people's books. He began a series of charming memoirs with "En dreng ved navn Herman" (1974).
Among Stilling's major decorations are the gable painting for G.A. Hagemanns Kollegium (1952) in Copenhagen and the mosaic for Slagelse Amtssygehus (1969).
