BD Vacutainer® PST™ II Tubes

The BD Vacutainer® PST™ II tubes are provided with separating gel and spray-dried lithium heparin additives. The heparin mixes efficiently with the patient's blood sample and guarantees optimal anticoagulation when filled to the correct level. Sun-protected storage at 4-25 °C is recommended, but the sample remains stable for at least 24 hours even when stored at 20-25 °C.

The heparin complies with pharmaceutical standards and contains no preservatives that could interfere with the analysis. After centrifugation, the separating gel forms a secure diffusion barrier between plasma and the solid cell components, so that re-mixing is prevented. There is a small risk of microclot and fibrin formation.

Centrifugation Conditions

• 1300-2000 x g for 10 minutes at 18-25 °C
• 3000 x g for 5 minutes at 18-25 °C (according to BD study VS 7513)
