For most of the LP12's history, the plinth was not a performance variable. You could upgrade the bearing, the motor, the arm, the sub-chassis — but the plinth itself remained a constant. The Bedrok changed that. It is Linn's first ever plinth upgrade for the LP12, and it is not a cosmetic exercise. The Bedrok is a structurally different object from the standard plinth, built from a completely different material and aimed squarely at the top level of LP12 performance.
The Bedrok is standard equipment on the Klimax LP12. For owners of Selekt LP12 builds or high-specification custom LP12s, it is the upgrade that addresses the one structural element previously left untouched.
The standard LP12 plinth is made from MDF-based board, and it does a perfectly adequate job at the price. But it has resonant characteristics that, at the highest levels of LP12 specification, become audible — a slight colouration, a softening of the leading edge of notes, a very slight obscuring of fine inner detail.
The Bedrok is formed from orthogonal layers of beech placed under extreme heat and pressure to create an entirely new, dense composite material. The result has more than double the density of the standard LP12 plinth. Because the material is more massive and significantly less resonant, it provides a quieter platform for everything mounted above it — sub-chassis, bearing, tonearm, and cartridge. The audible effect is a blacker background, tighter and more defined bass, and better resolution of low-level detail.
Linn describes the performance character as more pace, tighter bass, greater insight, and greater enjoyment — language that LP12 owners will recognise as meaningful rather than aspirational.
The Bedrok is available in a range of wood finishes, matching the standard LP12 plinth dimensions and lid-mounting arrangement. Finish options include natural beech, oak, and rosenut. Confirm current finish availability when ordering — Linn's finish range is subject to change.

The Bedrok makes the most sense for LP12 owners running a Keel SE sub-chassis, Ekos SE arm, and Radikal — a build where the original plinth starts to become the weakest structural link. If you are on a Klimax-level specification and have not yet moved to Bedrok, it is the upgrade you have not made yet. For Selekt-level builds, the Bedrok is a meaningful step that sits alongside sub-chassis and arm upgrades rather than competing with them.
It is not necessary at Majik level — but for anyone moving toward a reference build, it completes the picture.
Martins Hi-Fi has been in Norwich since 1968, and the Linn range has been part of what we do for years. We are still family-run — Ted Martin's daughter Elizabeth runs the business today — and we stock only brands we have heard properly and stand behind.
Fitting the Bedrok requires a full LP12 rebuild — all internal components must be transferred from the existing plinth to the new one, and the suspension must be correctly set up afterwards. Professional fitting is essential, and Martins can carry this out as part of our LP12 servicing work.
