Cyrus PSX-R2

The Cyrus PSX-R2 is a dedicated external power supply designed to work with a wide range of Cyrus components across the Classic, XR and i Series ranges. By moving power conversion into a separate chassis entirely, the PSX-R2 removes a significant source of electrical noise from the host component's signal circuitry — with directly audible results on noise floor, low-level resolution and dynamic composure.

Why External Power Supplies Matter

Every audio component contains a power supply that converts mains AC into the regulated DC voltages the signal circuitry requires. That conversion process generates noise — switching transients, ripple and electromagnetic interference — which exists in the same chassis as the signal path. However carefully managed internally, some of that noise inevitably infiltrates the signal circuitry. In components working with millivolt-level signals, such as phono stages and DAC output stages, the effect is most pronounced.

The PSX-R2 addresses this at source. The host component's internal power supply is bypassed, and the PSX-R2 delivers clean, regulated DC through a dedicated DIN connection. The two components occupy separate chassis with separate mains feeds, and the electrical environment around the host component's signal circuitry improves substantially as a result.

Compatibility Across the Classic and XR Ranges

The PSX-R2 is compatible with a wide range of current and previous Cyrus components. Within the Classic Series, compatible products include the Cyrus Classic AMP, Cyrus Classic Stream, Cyrus Classic Power and Cyrus Classic Phono. Dual PSX-R2 Operation

Many Cyrus components support connection of two PSX-R2 units simultaneously, with each supplying power to a different section of the host component's circuitry. Where this is supported the improvement is additive — the second unit brings further reduction in noise and cross-contamination between circuit sections. For those building a serious Cyrus system, running dual PSX-R2 units on the most sensitive components is a well-established approach.

Build and Design

The PSX-R2 is built in Cyrus's familiar half-width casework, designed to stack neatly alongside other Cyrus components. It is available in black or silver to match the host component. The fascia carries nothing beyond a power indicator — there is nothing to adjust and nothing to configure. Connect the DIN link, switch on, and the improvement is immediate.

Who Is It For?

The PSX-R2 is for any owner of a compatible Cyrus component who wants to hear what their investment is genuinely capable of. It is most impactful on phono stages and DAC stages, where signals are smallest and sensitivity to power supply noise is greatest. It is the single most cost-effective upgrade available for most Cyrus components — one of the few audio accessories where the improvement is reliably audible rather than theoretical.
