All signal processing, crossover filtering, and speaker-specific optimisation happens upstream in the DSM; the 4100's job is purely to amplify.

The practical advantages of a four-channel unit over four separate mono blocks are real: a single chassis, a single power supply, a single unit of rack space. For a system centred on a stereo pair of two-way active speakers, the 4100 is usually the most straightforward way to provide the amplification. Each of the four channels is independently buffered, so the load presented by one driver does not directly affect the performance of any other. The power supply is sized to handle the combined demands of four channels simultaneously.
