Meridian DSP7200SE HC/VC Active Centre Channel Speaker

In a well-specified home cinema, the centre channel carries the majority of what you hear — dialogue, on-screen effects, anchored sound. It is not a supporting role. If the centre channel is the weakest speaker in the system, the whole front soundstage suffers. Dialogue loses texture. The coherence that defines a high-quality multichannel system begins to unravel.

The DSP7200SE HC exists to prevent exactly that. Designed specifically as the centre channel partner for DSP7200SE and DSP8000 XE main loudspeakers, it shares their driver technology, their Special Edition electronics, their dual DSP processors, and their beryllium dome tweeter. The result is a front soundstage of genuine integrity — not a compromise between the main speakers and an adequate centre, but three loudspeakers operating as a coherent system.

Architecture

The DSP7200SE HC is a four-driver, three-way active loudspeaker in a horizontal cabinet. A 25mm beryllium dome tweeter with silver voice-coil handles treble, a 160mm polypropylene mid-range driver handles the midrange, and two 200mm long-throw bass drivers share the bass load. Four Class-AB amplifiers, each 150 watts, 600 watts total — the same amplification complement as the DSP7200SE floorstander.

Two dedicated DSP processors render all audio, including MQA Core streams, at 176.4kHz or 192kHz regardless of the incoming sample rate. This is not a cut-down version of the DSP7200SE electronics — it is the same platform in a different enclosure.

Centre Elevation

Placing a centre channel horizontally beneath a large screen creates a persistent acoustic geometry problem: the sound originates below the image it is anchoring. Meridian's Image Elevation technology addresses this directly, psychoacoustically raising the perceived sound image to the centre of the screen. Three levels of elevation are selectable via a Meridian Surround Controller with SpeakerLink outputs, or can be set as a fixed non-volatile value via RS232 for permanent installations. The effect is that dialogue and on-screen sound feel as though they come from the right place — because they do.

Enhanced Bass Alignment

Low frequencies travel differently to mid and high frequencies and, in any room with reflective surfaces, can arrive at the listener with slight timing inconsistencies relative to the rest of the frequency range. Meridian's Full Frequency Alignment corrects these delays within the DSP domain, producing timing coherence across the full bandwidth. The practical result is dialogue that has weight and definition rather than the blurring or thickening that an uncorrected centre channel can introduce.

Trifield

The DSP7200SE HC supports Meridian's Trifield spatial processing — a format that extends stereo music recordings into multichannel reproduction without artificial widening effects. In a system with DSP7200SE or DSP8000 XE main loudspeakers, Trifield makes the centre channel a contributor to music listening as well as film watching.

DSP Technologies

The DSP7200SE HC implements nine Meridian signal processing technologies including Image Elevation, Full Frequency Alignment, Bespoke Signal Mapping, E3 Bass, Q-Sync, True Time, True Link, Pro-Active Bass, and Pro-Active Thermal — the same suite as the DSP7200SE floorstander.
